About Scott Johnston
Born 1956, San Mateo, California
Biography
My interest in photography began as a child capturing images with an Instamatic camera and flashcubes. I honed my skills as a staff member of the Daily Tar Heel (circulation 10,000) while attending UNC-Chapel Hill. It was a thrill to take a series of images one day and see them on the cover of the newspaper the following morning. Studying the work of some of the great photographers including Ansel Adams, Michael Kenna and Ralph Gibson and having the privilege of attending workshops with other extraordinary photographers such as Rodney Smith, John Sexton and Ron Rosenstock, I strive to create images that speak to the soul as well as the eye.
